Watching "Cool Hunter" I saw people melting plastic bags with an iron to make other bags...  Seems a little strange, but who am I to judge???

Apparently plastic bags may start to melt at 90 degrees celcius.

From what I understand, that is no problem for the reprap extruder!  (I want one.)

Talk about COOL recycling!!!  I can only dream right now...

Hi fowlerp

CNCman here from Greece, Vassilis is my name

The material use for plastic bags - i believe - is not the ideal one for 3D printing because its low viscosity.

Low viscosity means thick layers and more material waste.

High viscosity means thinner layers and i believe less material waste.

I'm on research too , so what ever i say is just thoughts with no proofs yet.

Lets hope we find something evolutionary

Thats for start

Keep up the good work and all the best

Vassilis

Thank you,

Maybe there are other people who know of a cheap additive that can help?  Reprap website has instructions on how to make plastic rods to "feed" into their extruder, although they seemed to indicate that the plastic material needed to be just right....  They did seem picky.

I don't have the link at the moment and cannot seem to pull up the reprap website.  I may be banned at the moment from their site since I tried last night to download a lot of their web pages for offsite browsing and "general study."  In the end, I would like to actually make a complete Reprap system and not just have an extruder on my Sherline.

I can still dream :-)  ...and if nothing else, I can make big bags out of small bags like cool hunter by using an iron and a sewing machine.

Hi

There is always something else. The point is , to reach this " something else " you have to start from somewere and for instance from  plastic bags. Having in your mind its properties, you get the point if it will work or not.

Another cool material is Hot glue rod but you need a hot tube to melt it. It's an idea , easy to find and cheap.

That's a qiuck start
